Maroondah Dam maintenance plans revealed
After years of calls from the community and State Liberal Member for Eildon, Cindy McLeish for government investment, Maroondah Dam finally looks set to receive some upgrades. The State Labor Government have remained coy about revealing exactly how much is to be spent on the repairs.
Ms McLeish put the question directly to the Minister for Environment, asking what works are planned and how much funding is to be dedicated to works at the Maroondah Dam.
Ms McLeish said, “I have been calling for years for the park to receive the funding it needs to help bring it back to its former glory.”
“Maroondah Dam is such a stunning location but for years it has been run down and received little to no maintenance.”
The Minister failed to provide the amount of funding that will be dedicated to the works but confirms plans to refurbish the toilet block, install new barbecues, picnic tables and improve pedestrian pathways are on the cards in the next 18 months – two years after it was initially announced.
Ms McLeish continues, “We are none the wiser as to how much will actually be spent on these repairs whether it’s $5,000, $50,000 or $500,000.”
“Plenty of work will still need to be done after these listed repairs are finally made. The driveway into the park is a real area of concern, full of cracks and potholes. The garden area needs maintenance, buildings are covered in graffiti and roofing of the shaded areas needs replacement,” Ms McLeish concludes
