What’s the hold up?

State Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish has called on the Minister for Environment and Climate Change in Parliament, to explain the delay in development of the Millgrove River Road community walking track.

Ms McLeish said, “The Millgrove River Road community walking track is a shovel-ready project that has been delayed without explanation.”

Millgrove Residents Action Group first conceived the idea for their walking track in 2014 and have been waiting for its completion ever since.

In 2018, the government committed to funding the project, yet nothing has been done to complete development and no explanation has been given to the community or action group.

When complete, the track will allow walkers easy access to the banks of the Yarra River and to provide a safe pathway to River Road, leading tourists to shop fronts and cafes.

Ms McLeish continues, “This track will increase recreational activities, tourism opportunities and encourage fitness while people are enjoying the mental health benefits of being outdoors in the Yarra Ranges.”

“Regional communities are far too often left by the wayside when it comes to project funding support.”

“The community need an explanation as to why the development of their track has halted,” Ms McLeish concludes.

Under Parliamentary practise the Minister has 30 days to respond to Ms McLeish’s request.
