Only two repairs to be made on Melba Highway

There is disappointment for Melba Highway users as only two locations at Ewing Wynd and Castella are earmarked for road maintenance to take place during the summer period.

State Liberal Member for Eildon, Cindy McLeish, last month called on the Minister for Roads to immediately provide funding and resources to fix the problems on the Melba Highway.

Ms McLeish said, “The need for repairs on the Melba Highway and the Yarra Glen bypass is now more urgent than ever. The minister responded saying that they were tackling only two out of at least 10 very troublesome spots along the 65-kilometre stretch. This isn’t good enough – there’s just too many spots that need attention.”

“Locals were astounded that repairs started just out of Yea as Melbourne was unlocked, which saw local traffic and visitors having to stop at traffic lights. It is very disappointing that no further roadworks were announced to follow that.”

Repairs at Ewing Wynd and Castella included restoration to road pavement, reduced road roughness and updated wearing surface.

“We are on the brink of the busy summer season. Time is getting away. The New South Wales border has been opened. People are going to travel along the Melba Highway to holiday destinations, towing boats and caravans, and we have the usual heavy traffic as well,” Ms McLeish concludes.

This must be taken into consideration when roadworks are planned.
