No answers for Warburton-Woods Point Road speed reduction

There is no definite end in sight for drivers frustrated with the reduced speed limit or completion of roadworks on Warburton-Woods Point Road spanning from East Warburton to Reefton.

In August 2021, the State Labor Government lowered the speed limit from 80km to 60km, claiming it was due to an increase of heavy vehicles using the road and wet weather deteriorating the asphalt pavement.

State Liberal Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish has called on the Minister for Roads many times prior to this to repair the Warburton-Woods Point Road.

Ms McLeish said, “The condition of the Warburton-Woods Point Road has been dreadful for years.”

“I have requested that road repairs and maintenance were conducted to prevent further damage. This was unfortunately put on the backburner by the State Labor Government.”

In response to Ms McLeish’s most recent correspondence, the Minister confirmed the timeline for roadworks depends on the completion of the Upper Yarra Dam upgrade.

The Minister for Water, when questioned by Ms McLeish confirmed the remainder of the Safety Upgrades at the Upper Yarra Dam and reinstating the internal park access road to its previous condition are expected to be completed by the end of December 2021.

Ms McLeish continues, “Now that the Dam works are nearing completion, pavement works will need to be actioned on the Warburton-Woods Point Road, hopefully by the end of the year.”

“Drivers are sick and tired of the reduced speed limit and ongoing roadworks due to a lack of action by the government,” Ms McLeish concludes.
