Badger Weir picnic area road still a mess
The State Liberal Member for Eildon, Cindy McLeish has again called on the Minister for Environment to prioritise urgent repairs to Badger Weir Picnic ground road entrance. The proposed road works failed to take place during the scheduled time of October.
Speaking in Parliament, Ms McLeish asked the Minister for Environment when the minister’s proposed long-term solution to improve the road would be actioned and what exactly it would involve.
Ms McLeish said, “I’ve seen firsthand the extent of the problems. Those pot holes are deep and there’s plenty of them.”
“Many locals have contacted me stating the road is still in an appalling condition and something needs to be done now. It is disappointing for the community and visitors that repairs were not prioritised or actioned during the given time.”
“People want to know when repairs will be made and how long it is expected to last. The long-term solution needs to be actioned.”
Ms McLeish first called for repairs to be done in September 2020. The minister ensured works would begin in October 2020 and a longer-term solution be provided to fix the road. Neither have happened.
“We’re almost in peak holiday season. The road needs to be accessible and safe for visitors to drive on. It can’t be ignored and can’t be pushed back anymore.”
“The Badger Weir picnic ground is a popular destination for those in Healesville, Badger Creek and tourists. I fear repairs have been left too late and the road won’t be easily accessible or safe during the busy summer period.”
Under Parliamentary guidelines the Minister has 30 days to respond to Ms McLeish’s request.
