Andrews plays political games with the fire safety of Victorians
Despite the horrors of the recent summer bushfires still front of mind for all Victorians, the Andrews Labor Government has once again shown it’s not interested in being part of the bushfire safety solution.
State Liberal Member for Eildon, Cindy McLeish says it is disappointing that the Andrews Labor Government has failed to adequately brief the Liberal National MPs who represent Victorians in some of the highest-risk fire danger areas.
Ms McLeish said, “Communities rely on leadership and support during periods of crisis. Every MP must be up to date and prepared for a potentially dangerous fire season.”
“The Premier and Minister for Emergency Services are playing political games when the safety of Victorians is at stake.”
Briefings provide risk levels, contacts and prevention strategies, and are vital heading into the fire season.
Not offering reasonable flexibility to brief the Opposition flies in the face of Victorians still recovering from previous fires.
Additionally, while Andrews’ creation Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) cost taxpayers more than $70 million as overtime allowances ballooned, local CFA sheds sit idly waiting for any sign of support from the government.
Ms McLeish continues, “Daniel Andrews must put politics aside when it comes to fire preparations and the safety of Victorians.”
“The Premier must prioritise consultation to properly brief MP’s from all sides of politics,” Ms McLeish concludes.
