Green rezone looks likely

State Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish is pleased to announce that the rezoning of Green Street, Healesville looks likely within 12 months, opening it up to the possibility of turning it into a Public Park and Recreation Zone.

Ms McLeish has written to the Treasurer, the Minister for Finance and Minister for Planning numerous times over three years wanting to know the status of the land and voicing the concerns of Healesville residents who are keen to see the site continue to be used as community space.

There has been uncertainty about the future of this land for years once the Victorian Labor Government declared they wanted to dispose of it.

Ms McLeish said, “This is good news for the Healesville community. Green Street has been a well-used public space for people to enjoy and it’s good to see a chance being given for the land to potentially remain in the community.”

The Yarra Ranges Shire Council has expressed its desire to purchase the land for community use since 2017 and requested it be rezoned to a Public Park and Recreation Zone.

The value of the land will be significantly lower if the rezone favours the Yarra Ranges Shire Council’s request, reopening the possibility for the Council to put in an offer for the land.

Ms McLeish states, “I am pleased to finally receive answers.”

“I have been contacted by many residents expressing their concern in losing the land and enthusiasm for the Yarra Ranges Shire Council to take it over.

“I hope, with further discussion, Yarra Ranges Shire Council and Healesville residents will receive the outcome the community have been fighting for, for so long,” Ms McLeish concludes.
