Local highways need safety fix
State Liberal Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish has called on the Andrews Labor Government to fund safety upgrades along highways in the Murrindindi Shire in the upcoming Victorian State budget.
“Daniel Andrews has the opportunity to upgrade our roads in the next budget to keep all motorists safe. After four years of inaction, now is the time to keep all motorists safe.”
“Our community needs this.”
Ms McLeish said increasing traffic along the Melba, Maroondah and Goulburn Valley Highways was contributing to more dangerous situations for road users.
“There are more tourists heading to the snow fields and Lake Eildon, and there are more trucks using our highways cutting across to the Hume.”
“On top of this, there’s an increasing amount of cyclists who need to be better protected,” Ms McLeish said.
Over the past four years, Ms McLeish has advocated for a number of safety improvements on local roads including additional overtaking lanes, resurfacing and sealing of road shoulders.
Ms McLeish has also called for dedicated left turn lanes off the highways onto local roads including at the intersection of Dairy Creek Road and the Goulburn Valley at Homewood.
