Have your say on the Water Resource Plan for Northern Victoria


State Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish MP is encouraging local residents to have their say on the future of water use from Lake Eildon and the Goulburn River.

“Now is the time to have your say on how our community’s water will be used as part of the Murray Darling Basin Plan. We must ensure that local voices are heard as part of this process, so I encourage residents to speak up,” Ms McLeish said.

The Victorian Government has prepared a draft Water Resource Plan for Northern Victoria as part of the implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The draft Plan outlines how the government will meet the Basin Plan requirements for the region, including an explanation of the region’s water resources, and the state’s existing water management framework.

Public consultations opened last week and will close on 4 March before the state government submits the final Northern Victoria Water Resource Plan to the Murray Darling Basin Authority in April.

Ms McLeish said locals who want to have their say can do so through the government’s online consultation platform, engage.vic.gov.au or contact her electorate office on 9730 1066 for information and assistance.

“Copies of the draft plan are available from the Engage Vic website where submissions can be typed or uploaded,” Ms McLeish said.

A community information session will be held at Y Water Discovery centre in Yea between 12:00pm and 1:00pm on Monday 4 February. Further sessions will be held in Shepparton on 13 February.

Ms McLeish concluded saying that she welcomed interested community members her to speak with her directly about the draft plan.

“I want to make sure this plan works for our region, so if locals are planning on making a submission to the government, I would welcome those submissions also being sent to my office.”
