Flying the flag for Toolangi Primary School

State Liberal Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish MP is flying the flag for Toolangi Primary School’s push to fund a new flagpole.

Speaking in the Victorian Parliament, Ms McLeish called on the Minister for Education to assist the school in funding installation of the flagpole.

‘The students take pride in their school, their town and their country. Sadly, though, they do not have a flagpole to fly the Australian flag.’

‘The department have told them they are on their own and will have to cover the costs of the flagpole out of their budget or through fundraising. Flagpoles are not cheap and a small school like Toolangi has very limited means to raise funds’, Ms McLeish said.

Ms McLeish’s calls come off the back of other schools in the city having received funding for similar projects.

‘Toolangi’s case is in stark contrast to the experience at Footscray City Primary School where the member for Footscray gloated in Parliament about how she had written and spoken to the Minister and had been guaranteed that she would be able to get a second flagpole for that school,’ Ms McLeish said.

‘Small schools like Toolangi should not be ignored. It should be relatively simple for the Andrews Government to deliver a flagpole for Toolangi given it has already supported schools in the city,’ Ms McLeish concluded.

Under parliamentary rules the Minister has 30 days to respond to Ms McLeish.
