Making Woori Yallock and Wesburn Primary Schools safer

State Liberal Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish MP has announced the Liberal Nationals Coalition will install 40km/h electronic speed signs at Woori Yallock and Wesburn Primary Schools if it wins the next state election.

“A Liberal Nationals Government will ensure our kids are safe and will make sure there is no confusion for motorists with the installation of new electronic speed signs,” Ms McLeish said.

Ms McLeish was joined by Shadow Minister for Education Tim Smith to announce the commitment on Thursday morning.

The announcement follows four years of campaigning and multiple requests to the Andrews Labor Government to fund the upgrades including a petition supported by 250 Woori Yallock residents in November 2015.

“On numerous occasions I have asked the government to commit to improving safety for students and residents in the Upper Yarra and have organised a petition calling for action.”

“On every occasion the Minister for Roads has informed me that these schools do not fall within VicRoad’s current guidelines which mainly deals with urban roads. This policy is outdated and does not take into account the conditions faced on country roads.”

“Daniel Andrews is continuing to allow local children to be placed in harm’s way. The Government’s continual denial that there is not a problem with the safety of these crossings is crazy,” Ms McLeish said.

Mr Smith said the announcement was in line with the Liberal National’s commitment to improving safety at all schools across Victoria.

“Parents should be able to send their kids to school and have the confidence that they will arrive there safely.”
