Healesville-Yarra Glen Road finally set for fix

Healesville-Yarra Glen Road will finally receive permanent repairs following calls made in the Victorian Parliament by State Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish MP.

“Yarra Valley locals have been waiting over six months for this work to be done. It’s about time the Government showed some action and fixed this road,” Ms McLeish said.

This month, the Minister for Roads and Road Safety confirmed that permanent remedial works would be carried out on the Healesville – Yarra Glen Road by June 2018.

It followed Ms McLeish’s calls in the Victorian Parliament in December and a Facebook campaign that reached 15,000 locals.

Ms McLeish said she was concerned the Minister was setting the expected completion date too far into the year.

“When I raised the state of this road in the Parliament I said it needed to be fixed by Christmas. Performing road upgrades during summer is the ideal time because it lessens the risk of rain water affecting the new surface,” Ms McLeish said.

However in further positive news for motorists, electronic signs appeared in Yarra Glen on Tuesday advising motorists of road works set to take place between 22 January and 11 February.

Motorists will need to divert through the township and the Yarra Glen Bypass to avoid the road closure.

Further works are expected to take place along the stretch of road between Old Healesville Road to Healesville-Kinglake Road.

Ms McLeish said that rural roads like the Melba Highway were facing a serious lack of investment by the Andrews Labor Government.

“Daniel Andrews has cut the road asset management budget by 10% and cancelled the Country Roads and Bridges Programe.”

“I think our community is very lucky that in this instance we are seeing some action,” Ms McLeish concluded.
