Labor continues to ignore rotting roads
State Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish MP has slammed the Andrews Labor government for refusing to fix roads in the Yarra Valley, choosing instead to upgrade roads in Melbourne’s Western Suburbs.
“Despite our communities crying out for their rotting roads to be fixed, Daniel Andrews and his Labor government continue to ignore our region,” Ms McLeish said.
Ms McLeish said the Andrews Labor government will spend $1.8 billion to build what it calls ‘new high quality roads’ throughout Melbourne’s western suburbs.
“People living in the outer east and country Victoria will not receive one cent,” Ms McLeish said.
The government’s announcement comes despite repeated calls to fix roads in the Yarra Valley.
“Daniel Andrews continues to ignore the needs of Yarra Valley motorists, families and businesses and proves, once again he is leading a city-centric government.”
Ms McLeish said it was important for the government to fund road upgrades in the Yarra Valley because of safety concerns.
“Motorists in the suburbs may be fed up with lengthy travel times, but motorists in rural areas are concerned for their safety. They know the combination of higher speeds and poorly maintained roads is very dangerous,” Ms McLeish said.
Ms McLeish concluded saying “it’s time Daniel Andrews’ government looks beyond the tram tracks and starts working in the interest of all Victorians.”
