Questions Raised over Goulburn Valley Hwy speed change

State Liberal Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish has raised questions about the recent change to speed limits on the Goulburn Valley Highway between Yea and Molesworth.

“An enormous number of residents in and around Yea, Alexandra and Mansfield have raised concerns with me. Many are unhappy as they see the speed limit change as not the best solution, particularly as it appears the road is not the problem,” Ms McLeish said in the Victorian Parliament.

Ms McLeish used question time to raise the matter with the Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan calling on the Government to explain what information was used to warrant the change.

“The Minister needs to explain what information VicRoads relied on when it made its decision. Local residents are disappointed that they were not consulted – they feel they have been left in the lurch.”

Ms McLeish said the road affected by the changes is in good condition and does not appear to have contributed to recent accidents.

Ms McLeish concluded saying, “Under Parliament’s rules, the Minister has 30 days to answer my question. I look forward to hearing the Government’s response so that local residents can find out how long the changes are likely to affect them.”
